Fruits Basket is one of the most beloved shojo manga series in existence. If you spend some time with Tokyopop's new hard-bound Ultimate Edition, you'll soon see why. The story's combination of love, comedy, tragedy and, strangely enough, the Chinese zodiac makes for a well-balanced series that's a lot of fun, thanks in no small part to its heroine, the ever-optimistic Tohru Honda.

Recently orphaned, Tohru sets up a tent on private property while her grandfather guardian finishes renovations on their house. She quickly discovers that she's unintentionally trespassing on land belonging to the Sohma family, and the three boys occupying the nearby house invite her to live with them for as long as she needs to.

It doesn't take long for Tohru to discover the Sohma family's deepest secret: Each member is possessed by a spirit animal from the Chinese zodiac. The clever and gentle Yuki is possessed by the Rat, the charismatic Shigure is possessed by the Dog and the temperamental Kyo houses the spirit of the Cat--who, according to legend, was tricked by the Rat out of becoming an official member of the zodiac (thus he fights often with Yuki in hopes of "regaining his rightful spot"). As if possession wasn't enough of a drag, the members of the Sohma family also temporarily revert to their respective animal forms whenever they receive a hug.

The concept behind Fruits Basket is clever, which also means it has the potential to go stale. Thankfully, manga-ka Takaya explores her characters freely, meaning moments of slowdown are rare. Despite her problems, Tohru is always cheerful; it's hard not to like her, especially when the reader learns about the isolation she endured as a child. The Sohma family is also explored in length, including the other members of the zodiac and their mysterious, potentially vengeful leader, Akito. Emotions run high throughout the series; it's not unusual to laugh at one chapter and cry over the next.

Esta foi uma análise geral de Fruits Basket q encontrei pela internet. Realmente recomendo este mangá! XD
